Up to 50MB of data can be stored there per domain.

You can secure the information stored in localStorage if the domain is in https.

The data is stored as a key/value.

The API is exactly the same as for sessionStorage, with the difference that localStorage persists in the browser even after it is closed, which is not the case for sessionStorage.

Unlike cookies, it is not possible to alter the values stored with localStorage.

It is supported from IE8(included).
